Missing teeth can do more than leave visible gaps in your smile. They can also cause jawbone shrinkage, speech problems, and chewing issues.
Our Oviedo, FL, dentists, Drs. David Ross and Karen Schmitt, can replace missing natural teeth with dental implants and restorations.
Do you want to complete your smile and improve oral functions? Learn how dental implants from Alafaya Family Dentistry in Oviedo can help.
What Are Dental Implants?
Implants are artificial tooth roots that are constructed of either ultra-strong titanium or zirconia. They are placed into your jaw where a tooth or teeth are missing. This virtually painless surgical procedure can be performed by Dr. Ross at our state-of-the-art Oviedo, FL, practice.
Eventually, customized restorations such as crowns, dentures, or bridges will be firmly attached to the implants, completing your smile and restoring important oral functions that can affect your health and quality of life.

Missing Teeth Are a Common Problem
With a Common Solution
There are more than 335 million people in America. Of that number, about 120 million are missing one tooth or more.* That means about 35% of our country's population has experienced the same problem you're dealing with now. Like many of them, you can find a lasting solution with dental implants.
The Many Benefits of Dental Implants
Restore Your Appearance
When teeth are missing, your face can look sunken and aged. Restorations attached to implants fill out your cheeks, which can make you look younger and healthier.
Increased Self-Esteem
Many people with missing teeth feel awkward about smiling or talking in public. After implants and restorations complete your smile, your self-confidence during personal or professional interactions can be greatly improved.
Better Oral Health
Jawbone tissue can shrink and weaken where teeth are missing. And teeth on either side of a gap can literally shift out of place. Implants encourage strong jawbone tissue growth, and once restorations are attached, keep adjacent natural teeth from moving out of place.
Better Oral Functions
Oral functions like speaking clearly and chewing properly depend on having a complete set of healthy teeth. Implants with restorations can improve these functions.
Helps You Eat Better
Missing teeth can make eating nuts, raw veggies, and crunchy fruits difficult and even painful. Restorations attached to implants can give you the security to enjoy a healthier variety of foods.
Long-Lasting Investment
With proper oral hygiene, your implants can last a lifetime, while your high-quality restorations can last well over a decade. This can save you money over the long run.

We Love Our Oviedo Patients And They Appreciate Our Care
I recently had a failure in my 25 year old permanent bridge. Dr. Ross explained options to me and I decided on implants. Dr. Ross is a consummate professional and perfectionist. The process was by steps and took a little longer than I would have liked but the end result is outstanding. I did some research and found out Dr. Ross is a highly rated implant provider. If I were to need any further implants (and I hope I do not) or any other dental needs, Dr. Ross would be my choice. BTW, his chair side manner and that of his staff is super and makes a dentist visit much more pleasant.

Candidates for Dental Implants
Sufficient Jawbone Density
A healthy jaw is essential to support dental implants. If you've experienced jawbone atrophy due to tooth loss, you will need to get bone grafts to build up your bone structure.Healthy Gums
Periodontal disease and gum recession can both affect the results of the dental implant process. It's important that patients have healthy and sufficient gum tissue going into treatment.Good Overall Health
Dental implant patients should be in good enough health to undergo oral surgery without putting their well-being at risk. We can discuss any wellness issues during your consultation at our Oviedo practice.
Bone Grafting and
Sinus Lift Surgery
/
If you have experienced bone loss due to missing teeth, you may need bone graft surgery before getting dental implants. Sinus lift surgery can also be performed for patients receiving dental implants where their upper molars used to be. Note that bone grafting will add a few additional months to the implant treatment timeline.
"Like most people I dread having dental work. I've had a wonderful experience at Alafaya Family Dentistry. During the past year I've had extensive work done of a tooth implant and replacing old, deteriorating mercury fillings with new fillings or capping several teeth that required that. Dr. Ross is quite the perfectionist--in the best way! No pain during the procedure or afterward. I'm quite pleased with the results and so glad my son and his family found Alafaya Family Dentistry and referred me to them too." Phyllis Hall, 5-Star Review

What About the Cost Of Dental Implants?
Dental implant treatment does require a significant but important financial investment in your oral health and quality of life. It is important to know that dental insurance rarely covers the actual surgery, though it usually covers some of your restoration fees. Our staff will work to get you the maximum coverage possible.
The final cost will be determined by several factors, including the number of implants and restorations you need, fees for digital X-rays and 3D jawbone scans, and if extractions, gum disease treatment, or a bone graft are needed to prepare your mouth for implants. Also, some implants do not include the cost of the abutment.
Our dentists want to make your dental implant treatment as affordable as possible. Therefore, we happily offer financing through CareCredit® and Lending Club®. These trusted lenders break down out-of-pocket costs into low-interest monthly payments that are based on your individual budget.

View on GoogleAnswers to Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Implants
What will it cost to restore my smile with dental implants?
There are virtually countless variables that can influence the cost of a dental implant treatment, making it difficult to answer this question without meeting you in person. During your consultation in Oviedo, we will gladly provide an estimated cost of treatment, and help you explore our low-interest financing options in detail.
Does insurance cover dental implants?
Basic insurance plans do not cover dental implants or abutments, but most plans will contribute to the cost of your restoration (crown, bridge, or denture), as well as most general or restorative procedures you might need in order to prepare for implant placement.
Are dental implants painful?
Many patients are surprised to learn that dental implant placement can usually be performed using only local anesthesia. We can also provide nitrous oxide or oral conscious sedation upon request. You can expect some swelling and discomfort for about three to five days after surgery, which can be controlled by taking over-the-counter pain meds and applying a cold compress.
How long does dental implant placement take?
Surgery can take about one to two hours per implant. After placement, it takes about three to six months for your jaw to completely heal and allow your implants to support your permanent restorations.
What are dental implants made of?
Our practice provides two types: titanium and zirconia. Both are biocompatible, meaning they do not cause allergic reactions, and both materials can bond with your bone tissue for decades of stability. Titanium is exceptionally strong. Zirconia also has excellent strength, but is sometimes chosen because it is less visible in the gum tissue and helps create an exceptionally aesthetic result. During your consultation, we can help you decide which type is right for you.
Are dental implants worth it?
We invite you to explore our Google reviews to read what patients who have received implants from our practice say about their level of satisfaction with the procedure. Meanwhile, if you are tired of suffering with unstable dentures, missing teeth, and feelings of self-consciousness about the appearance of your smile, we invite you to get in touch with our Oviedo practice to learn more about what this treatment can do for you.
