Veneers

Do you want a stunning smile that leaves a lasting impression but struggle with cosmetic imperfections like chipped or cracked teeth?

Alafaya Family Dentistry, serving Oviedo and Orlando, FL, offers veneers to conceal minor imperfections.

Read on to discover how veneers can refine your smile and your overall appearance.

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

/

Veneers are thin porcelain shells custom-made to fit over the front surfaces of your teeth. Veneers can conceal minor dental flaws like gaps, chips, and minor misalignment. Porcelain veneers can revamp your smile in a way that looks and feels natural.

Who Are Good Candidates for Porcelain Veneers?

You can trust our team to put your health first. Before recommending porcelain veneers, our dentist will evaluate your gums, teeth, and bite to ensure that your smile has a healthy foundation that can support veneers.

Patients who suffer from minor aesthetic flaws but have good dental health are usually great candidates for dental veneers. Porcelain veneers provide patients with a cosmetic, rather than a restorative dentistry solution. Concerns that impact your oral health or the function of your smile may need to be addressed a different way, such as with a dental crown

Finally, if you experience the symptoms of TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorders or teeth grinding, you are likely not ready yet for dental veneers. That's because pressure on your veneers can cause breaks or cracks. It's possible that after treatment, we can revisit your eligibility.

We use a minimally-invasive technique to place veneers on our patients. The tooth's structure stays intact, and only a small amount of enamel is removed during the process.

How Long Do Porcelain Veneers Last?

/

Porcelain veneers can last from eight to 10 years. Getting the most out of your veneers starts with maintaining good oral hygiene.

Invest in Your Self-Esteem With Veneers

Many patients are happy with their smile, even if it isn't perfect. However, if your teeth have made you feel less confident in your own skin, then you have an option to address it: dental veneers.

Veneers can improve your self-esteem by giving you the uniform smile you've wished for. Dr. Schmitt and Dr. Ross are happy to guide you through the possibilities at our welcoming practice.

Even if you are not a candidate for veneers, you may be eligible for other procedures that we offer, like teeth whitening or dental crowns. They may be able to address your goals instead, giving you a brighter or straighter smiler.

Over the past few months I have become a "regular" at Alafaya Family Dentistry because I chose to have some restoration work with Dr. Schmitt. Dr. Schmitt developed a care plan and we discussed what options were available that I could fit within my budget and get the results I was looking for. Every single person at this practice treats me with kindness and compassion. The office is clean, the equipment and technology is current, and they are punctual. I would absolutely recommend Alafaya Family Dentistry for general and cosmetic dental work.

Tell Me About the Procedure

To start, your dentist will remove a fine layer of enamel from each treated tooth so the veneer sits flush with your natural teeth. Removing the enamel is permanent, and means your tooth will always require a veneer or other kind of restoration.

Next, the dentist will take an impression of your smile. Impressions are sent to our dental lab so your custom veneers can be crafted. In the meantime, your dentist will place a temporary veneer on each treated tooth.

Once your custom veneers are ready, you'll return to our dental office to have them placed. Your dentist will make any final adjustments, then bond the veneers to your teeth.

Maintaining Your Porcelain Veneers

Man eating

Treating your dental veneers with care can help extend their lifespan.

To get the most out of your new smile, avoid tobacco products and staining foods and beverages. Do not open things with your teeth or engage in contact sports without a mouthguard, as these can dislodge a veneer. If you grind your teeth, wearing a bite guard at night can help prevent damage to the porcelain.

Porcelain Veneers vs. Bonding

Bonding (also called composite veneers) is an alternative to porcelain veneers that involves applying tooth-colored resin in order to conceal blemishes. It is a more affordable treatment, and can be a great way to decide whether you would eventually like to receive premium veneers. Here is a closer look at how these two solutions compare:

Material

Porcelain is a more lifelike material than composite resin. While bonding can be made to look realistic, it does not have the translucency of dental porcelain, and does not look as natural.

Risk of Staining

Just like our natural teeth, composite resin can be stained. Porcelain is less porous than resin, making this type of veneer much more stain-resistant.

Lifespan

Composite veneers don't last as long as porcelain veneers. When you choose the more premium option, your results won't just look more natural—they could last beyond 10 years with proper care.

Durability

Our teeth—and our veneers—need to withstand significant pressure. Porcelain veneers are more durable than composite veneers.

Have Questions?

How Much Do Porcelain Veneers Cost?

Because every patient has unique goals and needs, the price of every treatment differs. Several factors could influence the cost of upgrading your smile with porcelain veneers. For example, the more veneers you require, the more you can expect to pay. You may also want more than one cosmetic treatment, such as combining veneers with teeth whitening for a brilliant smile.

Your dentist can cover treatment costs during your initial consultation.

Because they are strictly cosmetic, veneers are not covered by insurance. We offer financing through LendingClub and CareCredit® to make veneers affordable for our patients. Our practice can help you apply for financing.

Crowns Can Benefit Those Who Don't Qualify for Porcelain Veneers

If you are not a candidate for dental veneers, you may be eligible for dental crowns, a restorative treatment that can also have cosmetic benefits.

Dental crowns are caps that go over your tooth or a dental implant. Crowns may be preferred to veneers if you have tooth breakage, or blemishes that a veneer can't conceal.

Because dental veneers can only go over your front teeth, you will likely need a crown instead if you wish to refine a back tooth. Our dentists can explain more about the treatment during your consultation.
