The Dental Veneer Process Explained

If you’ve always resented your teeth for years because of how they look, we want to ask, what’s stopping you from achieving the smile of your dreams? When your concerns are misshapen or severely discolored teeth you may want to consider dental veneers in Winter Park.

Veneers are thin yet impressively durable shells that are attached to the front part of your teeth to improve their shape, shade, and overall appearance of your smile. These shells can be made from either resin-composite or porcelain. You can choose to get a single veneer for a chipped or broken tooth, or you can get as many as eight veneers to create an even look.

How Are Dental Veneers Applied?

How Do You Prepare For Your Appointment?

Before veneers are placed on your teeth, you’ll need to schedule a preliminary appointment with your cosmetic dentist. This discussion will let your cosmetic dentist know how many veneers are needed and whether or not the current condition of your teeth is suitable for this procedure.

An X-ray may be taken to assess the health of your teeth. This appointment will also allow your dentist to check your mouth for signs of gum disease or tooth decay because if these are present, you will not be eligible for veneer placement.

Another thing, to ensure that the sizing is precise, your dentist will file your teeth approximately half a millimeter before an impression is taken. The mold will then be sent to the lab for veneer fabrication.

How Are The Veneers Placed on Your Teeth?

The entire veneer process usually takes between seven to fourteen days from the initial appointment until you get your dental veneers from the lab.

Once they are ready, you’ll need to go back to the clinic to have them placed. Your teeth will be cleaned thoroughly to remove cavity-causing bacteria. A grinding tool will be used to roughen your teeth. This step is essential so that the veneers can easily attach to your teeth. Next, your cosmetic dentist will apply cement over your teeth, which is needed so the veneers can stick to them. Ultraviolet light is used to expedite the hardening of the cement.
